We have had an exciting start to this school year with three severe weather days, and storms still brewing out there. This kind of excitement we can certainly do without. We have had several inquiries about make-up days, and unfortunately, we do need to make up for lost time. We will be using the days originally scheduled for the Teachers Convention, October 2 and 3, as make-up days. Please adjust your calendars accordingly. If we do not miss any more school, we will only make up the two days because we still meet the number of hours in attendance that are required for the school year.

If you did not attend the Meet-the-Teachers event on August 12, you missed out on some important announcements regarding this year. Here is a quick run-down to bring you up to speed.

NEWSLETTER NOTIFICATION
We need your e-mail address. We realized last year that many of you forget to check our website on a regular basis and that is the place you will find up-to-date information. Our plan this year is to send an e-mail reminder when a newsletter has been posted. If you did not fill out this request card on August 12, please stop by the front desk - it will only take a few minutes.

COMMUNICATING WITH TEACHERS/ADMINISTRATION
You can avoid phone tag by contacting us via e-mail. On the home page of our website, click on contact us where you will find e- mail information. When contacting a teacher, please use the subject line to post student's name so your communication is not mistaken for SPAM and deleted.

CAR POOLS
We had inquiries into helping organize car pools in these tough economic times. In the front office we have listings of the various zip codes. You can sign up for your zip code or surrounding zip codes and list your phone number. The list is then available for other families to check for possibilities. We are not actually establishing car pools, but assisting by providing the information. If you are interested in being involved in a car pool or if you are willing to pay someone for transporting your child, please come in and sign the list. If you signed up already, you can call to see if anyone else in your area has shown an interest, or stop by to check the list.

CASUAL DRESS FOR BIRTHDAYS
This is a fun privilege we have extended to our staff and secondary students for the past two years. This year we are also including our elementary division, K- 5th grade. Casual dress is allowed for your birthday, a no uniform day. If your birthday is on a Saturday, you may have casual dress on Friday; if your birthday is on a Sunday, casual dress on Monday. Summer birthdays will have a special day in May announced for their casual dress day. The policy on casual dress code is in the Handbook.

FALL SOCCER FOR ELEMENTARY GRADES is being offered through the ACYS organization. Coach Jacobson will once again be overseeing our program and seeking parent volunteers. You are encouraged to go online to register: www.acys.org. There is also information available in the office.

THE PARENT-STUDENT HANDBOOK is your guide to having a successful school year. Please get it out, dust it off, and review some important items before school begins. If you can't find yours, we have more in the office. Be sure to review the following topics: drop-off and pick-up procedures, attendance and tardy policy, requesting a pre-arranged absence form, dress code policies including the one that says K5-5th grade students need to wear sneakers to school, promotion and graduation requirements.

THE EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM is available to students in grades K5-5th. If you will be using this service, you must be registered in advance. Forms are available in the office; there is no registration fee. This service is available on days school is in session, from dismissal (11:30 for K4 students, lunch not included) until 6:00 p.m., and the applicable cost is paid weekly, not with the tuition.

THE SCHOOL CALENDAR is available online or in the office.

THE SECONDARY CLASS SCHEDULE is available online or in the office.

Available in PDF or DOC format. Students in grades 9-12 should have already scheduled classes, but if you have not done so, please contact Mrs. Barton.
