Welcome to Altamonte Christian School!
God continues to bless us with an outstanding faculty with combined experience of over 180 years, and a support staff that loves serving the Lord through this school ministry. This is the forty-third year of operation for Altamonte Christian School and we want it to be the best year yet! I believe two things are important factors for this to happen. The first is prayer: pray for the teachers and administrators, and know that we are praying for our families and students; pray for finances and wisdom in spending; and pray for the health of students and staff. Second, we want to keep the lines of communication open. Our website will be a resource for information and activities. Be sure to check it regularly. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have a concern, and we will do the same with you. Working together we can help your child to grow spiritually, academically, and socially.

2010-2011 School Year Kick-Off (from Mrs. Barton)
THE LAZY DAYS OF SUMMER ARE DRAWING TO AN END!
I know, and I don’t like to think about it either. I always know our summer days are numbered when I begin seeing teachers drop by to work in their classroom, and the folder with the supply lists has to be replenished regularly. It is fun to start seeing the students gear back up for a great new year, and it seems like many that I have seen have hit a growth spurt this summer. Better try on those uniforms to be sure they still fit!
Speaking of uniforms, let me remind you that we have added Capri pants for the girls, and secondary boys can now wear the uniform shorts. We are phasing out the culottes for girls, but they can still wear the ones they have. There are also new shirt choices for the girls. We have a new listing available in the school office if you plan to visit the uniform store before school starts. The used uniform sale will take place on August 3, details included in the calendar below.
I have received a few good applications for the computer position. Please be praying that the Lord will send the right teacher and that He will guide our decision making in this process. We have one other change in our faculty and that is in our first grade: Ms. Shinrock is going back to her maiden name, so we will all have to get use to calling her MISS McMANAWAY!
ENROLLMENT
Currently we have just over 170 students enrolled, and a few more are in the process. We continue to get inquiries daily. Scholarship money is still available to assist with tuition costs. This could make the difference to some families, so please help us by spreading the word. Your prayers for more students to enroll during the next few weeks will be greatly appreciated. We are planning to follow the same schedule as last year pertaining to the fourth and fifth grades. We had a very successful year and look forward to the same results again.
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED
It has been a very busy summer and many projects have been undertaken. Our science lab is getting a face-lift with painting, new lighting, new cabinets, and the addition of much needed equipment. This was made possible through funding provided by the Anson Foundation.
Mr. Tony, Anthony, and Mr. Diamond have been busy painting, fixing, working on plumbing, and so much more. BUT THERE IS STILL MUCH TO DO TO GET READY FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR. On Saturday, Aug. 7, we will have a BACK-TO-SCHOOL WORKDAY, from 8:00 until 11:00 a.m. We have some outside painting projects, new mulch to put out on the playground, boards to replace on the slides, cleaning in our cafeteria and kitchen, and the list could go on and on! Will you plan to join us for this workday? If I had at least 20 parents willing to work the three hours that is 60 man-hours of work. Think how much we can accomplish together! Please send me an e-mail if you can participate, and to let me know if you have an area of expertise – painting, carpentry, etc. Snacks and drinks will be provided, so just bring your work gloves and your grit! Your help will be greatly appreciated. E-mail me back today, jbarton@altamontechristian.org!
SECONDARY SPORTS
Our varsity soccer conditioning practices are underway. Boys in grades 7-12 are invited to come out from 3:30-5:30 on M,T,TH, and F. Varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams have been practicing at various times. If you are interested in joining them, you may call the school office for the current practice schedule.
Secondary students who will be playing any competitive sport this year will need to have a SPORTS PHYSICAL. These forms are available in the school office. I believe Centra Care facilities are still offering these physicals for $25. The physical must be completed before students can compete. The GAME SCHEDULE should be available at the Meet The Teachers Open House.
FIRST TIME IN A FLORIDA SCHOOL?
Students entering kindergarten must have a school physical and a current immunization form on file in the office, along with a copy of the birth certificate. Be sure you have this taken care of prior to the first day of school.
Students transferring to a Florida school for the first time must also have a school physical and updated immunization form prior to the first day of school. Please make arrangements for this immediately or you may have difficulty getting an appointment in time.
THE FIRST TUITION PAYMENT IS DUE AUGUST 1. BOOK FEE AND MATERIALS FEE SHOULD HAVE BEEN PAID BY THIS TIME. ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING YOUR ACCOUNT SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO JOYCE BRADLEY IN THE BUSINESS OFFICE.
BELOW IS A CALENDAR OF EVENTS FOR AUGUST.
AUGUST
T, 3 - UNIFORM RESALE STORE
Previously worn uniform items will be available for purchase. The store will be set up in the church auditorium and open for business from 4:00-5:30 for those with vouchers (from exchanging uniforms) and from 5:30-7:30 for everyone.
TH, 12 - MEET THE TEACHERS
This meeting signals that the start of the school year! A mandatory meeting for parents will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the church auditorium. We will be adding a new feature (EDLINE) to our administrative software package that will allow you to access your child’s grades online. This will change the way we report grades and other information. We are very excited about this, but we are all going to need some training, thus the mandatory meeting. Following the session in the auditorium, you will have time to visit the classrooms and meet the teachers, and receive other important information about this school year.
M, 16 - FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
M, 23 - FIRST MEETING OF THE PARENT-TEACHER FELLOWSHIP (PTF), 7:00 p.m.
You will want to get in on all the action with this organization. It is thanks to this wonderful group of parents and their hard work that we have added EDLINE.
W, 25 - AWANA BEGINS
Palm Springs Dr. Baptist Church invites your child to get involved in this Wednesday evening program for kids ages 4 through 6th grade. The time is 7:00-8:30 p.m. Youth Group is available for students in grades 7-12 during this same time frame. (Wednesday night is a NO HOMEWORK night!)
